Import contacts – Overview

If you have a big list of contacts, you have the ability to import all contacts at once in the tool. You import them by clicking on the button “Import Contacts” when you are in the ‘Contacts’ page. You have two options to import your contacts:

1) by copy/paste from text file
2) by importing from a file

1. Copy/paste form text file

Copy and Paste contacts from Excel, Google docs or any text file. Note that you must have e-mail address, first name, last name and attributes in separate rows and columns, preferably in an Excel-dokument. Copy the rows and columns and insert them in the tool by pasting your contacts under the heading “Paste contacts”.

The system will automatically place your contacts and contact information in separate columns and rows. Note that your contact information such as name and attribute can also be separated by commas, tabs or semicolons. The tool provides you with an visual example by clicking on “See example”.

Note that you may update your contact information by click on the checkbox “Update existing contacts”. Your contact information will be updated with new information from the imported contacts. Fields that are not included in the import will be left untouched in the tool.

Before you go on to the next step you must guarantee that all imported email addresses belongs to your own clients and/or have approved to receive your newsletters.

2. Import from file

Importing contacts by uploading a file is a recommended option, especially for big lists. The system currently accepts Excel-files (xls or xlsx) and CSV-files. Note that the system won’t upload a file with a size that exceeds 5 MB.

By using the browsing system you’re allowed to choose the file that you would like to upload. Note that you may update your contact information by click on the checkbox “Update existing contacts”. Your contact information will be updated with new information from the imported contacts. Fields that are not included in the import will be left untouched in the tool. Also, the system will exclude contacts that are already imported in the system.

Connect fields

Whatever method you choose to import your contacts, you’ll have to connect the columns in your file to the right columns in our system. This means that you will have to specify in our system what in the imported data is an email address, a first name and surname (and optional attributes). Note that you must specify which field is an email address, other fields are optional.

Once you’re done you may click on the button “Start import” to start the process of importing all your contacts to our system. Note that you’ll be notified when the import in complete by receiving a message in your inbox. The message will provide you with information about how many contacts that has been imported and subscriptions created. Also, you will receive a bounce report if there has been any complications importing any contacts which you may correct and import in the tool again.

★ Tooltip:

If you don’t have any choices in the list of values, such as first name or e-mail address it’s most likely that your Excel-file has a heading or a blank row that has been included in the import. Please have a look at your file.
